A recent field survey by NBC (NY Times, October 17, 2008) found free Internet streaming TV viewership to be gaining on conventional television - cable, satellite and terrestrial broadcast. By surpassing the quarter mark of total viewing of NBC's TV episodes as yardsticks, NBC has shown that there's no stopping Internet TV now. As with email, messaging, conferencing and telephony, Free TV on PC will soon become a standard internet feature.

Actually, Internet TV is nothing new. It's just that supporting infrastructure had not been in its favor in the early days. Conditions have advanced by heaps by now: broadband access, power PCs, super-sized storage and open hardware, software and networking. On top of it, internet user base volume has also long surpassed the critical mass level. The web is clearly rich for the picking by many an industry, not least Television.

The most well-known versions of television available on the net today are Internet TV, IPTV (Internet Protocol Television), Broadband TV and User Generated Content TV. They may be known by different names but basically, Internet TV is free and unrestricted video streaming, IPTV is a type of commercial TV entertainment, Broadband TV is similar to Internet TV but more Internet than TV as compared to the former which is relatively more TV than Internet and User Generated Content TV is short-clip type streaming best depicted by YouTube.

The appeal of distributing television programming through the internet is unquestionable. Take Internet TV for instance. From the providers' standpoint, it's inexpensive, quick-to-market, has boundless reach and advertising revenue potential or is just simply good advertising itself. For the viewers, the benefits are even more clear-cut, with it being free of charge, global, extensive variety and the ultimate combo of the two greatest favorites, TV and Internet.

It's not uncommon to see people 'multi-tasking' TV and PC these days, especially among the young. Sometimes, it's even purportedly necessary for their new-breed work or studies. Most if not all modern offices and homes have internet wired PCs anyway. So wouldn't streamlining the two activities into one be but only common sense? Plus with this, viewers are not the only one globally mobile, so will be their TV programming too!

True to form of the dynamic world of internet, the web is already inundated with free TV on PC of all shapes and sizes. Many are expectedly quite worthless. Fortunately, the supporting industries have not disappointed either. There is no shortage of computer programs retailing on the net itself that can pick out and organize the choice TV programming for you with their proprietary software. A handful of the industry pioneers are excellent value at only a fraction of what the big-time cable and satellite providers cost.

The History and Background of the Piano

For several hundred years, a series of small keyboard instruments have involved in what we call a piano today. This instrument is played by pressing keys with the fingers, which sound when the hammers inside the piano strike the steel strings. The vibration of the strings resonate beautifully after the keys are struck, which makes the piano a wonderful universal instrument for all kinds of music.

After keys are played by the pianist, the sound is stopped. As each key or chords are played, the resonance of the sound is directed to the soundboard which can be heard according to varying levels of loud or soft dynamics. So the piano is capable of contrasting dynamics and varying duration of pitches.

In traditional Western music, the piano is put to a wide variety of uses: for solo performance, ensemble recitals, chamber music, and as accompaniment for vocals or other instrument scores. It is also amongst the most popular instrumental aids for composing and rehearsing music. Although the piano is large and usually rather expensive, its versatility and indispensability have contributed to its status as the perhaps the most familiar and ubiquitous among musical instruments.

Piano is a shortened term for Pianoforte, which means loud and soft in Italian. This describes the ability for the piano to play various levels of loud and soft. The instrument piano has evolved from the Harpsichord a very popular instrument during the Baroque era centuries ago.

The modern day piano developed over the centuries from the harp an old instrument before Christ's time. Originally, the was and still is a plucked string instrument the gave birth to the piano. Keys were struck on the strings instead of being plucked in the very early keyboard instruments preceding the modern piano, which is the main difference between the harp and piano.

Musician and inventor Cristofori initiated the invention with designs of the harpsichord the instrument that preceded the piano. The instrument was far from perfect, but the harpsichord was the accepted instrument for music of the Baroque era and popular with composers like J.S. Bach and George Handel. The harpsichord evolved into the piano as we know it into the 19th century and made popular with virtuoso works by Chopin and Liszt.

Before the proper precursor to the modern piano was invented in the early 1700s, to be able to produce the keyboard music one needed to control three separate instruments all at once. Right from its inception, the principal challenge motivating the art of piano designing has been to make the high notes louder and brighter. To this end, several improvements have been made in the standard piano design: a precisely calibrated mechanisms to control hammer swing, high tensile steel strings in place of catgut, innovations in the shape and material of hammers, advancement in the designs of resonators and fret boards to extend the instrument's range, and other crucial inventions like the double key escarpment that enables a note to be repeated even if the hammer had not regained its full resting position.

The critical breakthrough in the evolution of the piano was reached in the 19th century with the development of felted hammers, which provided for greater string tension, improved steel wires, iron frames for the sounding board, etc. The upright piano was perfected late in the 19th century, which made the piano more portable, less unwieldy and above all more affordable. So the piano left the concert halls and into the living rooms of the middle class where distinction of the piano became a symbol of culture and artistic refinement.

American Motorcycle Jamboree

American Motorcycle Jamboree[I:0:J]

Every Memorial day weekend Me and a bunch of my Bro's hop on our Motorcycles and pack into Trucks filled with Tents,Sleeping bags,Bar-B-Qs,Beer and many other camping necessity as we head up to the beautiful 100 year old Sunshine Fairgrounds in the scenic Schoharie Valley in Cobleskill NY for the annual American Motorcycle Jamboree, Rally and camp out. [I:1:J]

For 25 years now Am-Jam has taken place on Memorial day weekend. In my a opinion it is a weekend that should be spent with Family and for me its the ever growing Am-Jam family. The Am-Jam Family is the name given to the group of volunteer's who every year do all the behind the scenes work that make Am-Jam the Three day biker Paradise it has become over the years.

As with any family there is that one special someone in charge and for the Am-Jam Family that person is Jeannie Aldos, Some might even call her the Mother of Am-Jam and she has filled the roll perfectly for the past 25 years.

In today's Motorcycle crazed culture where you can't turn on the TV or go into a store with out being bombarded with something that has to do with Motorcycles and it seems everyone is putting on a "Biker Event" signs with the words "No Club Colors" are seen more and more often.But not at Am-Jam !!! Jeannie set out 25 years ago to host the Best three day Biker Jamboree and Camp out in New York and to make sure it was open to everyone whether they are an Independent Rider in a Motorcycle Club or just a person who loves the lifestyle. Am-Jam is one of the few Biker rallies and Camp outs left in NY that is truly Biker friendly.

Now If you have never been to Am-Jam let me do my best to try to describe it to you.First you need to Imagine an old fashion Country Fair Grounds .Then picture over where the Carnival Rides would be (and every where else for that matter) Thousands of Tents,Campers,Motorcycles and Bikers. Over in the barn area where one would usually see farmers showing off prize Cows,Pigs and other farm animals,You will instead find it filled with proud Bikers showing off their antique Motorcycles.

The tents and booths on the Midway where one would usually see home made goods, arts and Crafts and some guy trying to get you to spend $5 to win a 10 cent Gold Fish or stuffed animal are instead filled with Custom Motorcycle dealers,Leather goods,Tattoo artists,Clubs selling support gear,Body Piercing,T-Shirts,Patches and Pins,Lady's Lingerie shops, and every other thing a Biker could need or want.

Over by the Grand Stand and main stage area during the day you find Tattoo contests,a Motorcycle Rodeo with games for those both on and off their Motorcycles and even thou I didn't see one this year I'm sure there was a wedding or two.

On the Main Stage at Night you have some of the best Rock and Southern Rock Bands in the Northeast playing and in between sets are the leather an lace Fashion Shows by USA Leather along with contests like the best Lady's Legs and every ones Favorite The Wet T-Shirt Contest.

On Saturday Night at 10pm every year there is a large fire Works display dedicated to all lost veterans and it can be seen for miles around the fairgrounds!

For Those who Forgot or didn't have room on their Bike for Food and Beer there is always plenty of great food vendors including my morning favorite the all you can eat Pancake Hut where you get Orange juice,sausage links and all the pancakes one can eat (Of Course after being up all night drinking you can only eat so many) for only $5.

Then of course there is the ever popular Beer Tent! The past few years it has been run by the Owner and Staff of the Bad Pig Saloon.

For those who came alone there is the ever popular Girl's Girl's Girl's Tent with some of the Hottest Girl's Dancing just for you.

Am-Jam seems to be getting Bigger and Better every year, with new and exciting vendors and events every year .The only bad thing I could say about Am-Jam is it just isn't long enough (I'm Sure members of the Family staff might disagree as it probably seems much longer to them)

After spending three days Camping and partying and having a great time with Bikers from all over, the only thought running threw my head as I watched the Thousands of bikers pack up their gear and head home was how great of a world would it be if Am-Jam was 365 days a year?

You've Got To Play Live If You Want To Be a Rock n Roll Star

So, you want to be a rock and roll star, or country or hip hop, jazz, pop, or any genre of music star. Well, dreaming is fine, but no matter what they said in the secret, it isn't going to make you any money, and it sure isn't going to make you a star. You have to get off your bed and get started.

While playing live may sound old fashioned in this day and age of the internet, it is still an important part of your marketing arsenal. According to information at the MusicMarketingCenter.com, right now is a great time to build your career. There's no 'big thing' right now. If you have something unique to your sound, there's no reason you couldn't become the next music phenomenon. If you fit into an existing style of music, people are always looking for something new yet familiar.

One of the most important things you need to do is to figure out what niche your music fits. In a future article, we'll go more into depth on that topic along with all kinds of ways to get yourself heard in the digital world. But, for this article, we are going to concentrate on playing live.

If you have figured out your musical style, or one that is similar, start there. Look for local places that are already known for music similar to what you play. Bug them till you get a gig there. Don't worry too much about the money in the beginning... you just need to build a loyal following for now.

That following... your fans is your number one asset. You need to bring whatever you need to create a mailing list. Try to get them to sign up right then and there for your mailing list (or fan club). Strike while they are excited about your music... when hearing it live. Bring a computer with an internet connection and let them sign up for your mailing list right there. If you can't do that, at least bring a pad of paper and some pens. Just get that info so you can keep in touch with your fans. The better they get to know you, the more likely they are to tell their friends, and increase your fan base.

Along with promoting yourself, your gigs, your cds, etc. with your mailing list, why not make some cash? Get tshirts, posters, or other merchandise created, and offer it to your list at a profit. Music fans love to talk about the new band they've discovered, and tshirts are a great way to help them to talk about you. Think it's going to cost you a lot of money to print tshirts? Wrong.. At the end of your set, spend some time with the audience. Tell them to sign up for your list at every chance, but also, just chat with them. What if your music doesn't fit into any established category? Look for colleges. They love going against the norms of society and are always looking for something new. There are also still some clubs around that like to give different kinds of music a chance. Just like you want to be a rock and roll star, plenty of club owners want their club to become the next CBGBs.

Be sure to scour the newspapers for audition and open microphone nights. Why not? It's another chance to play and practice your live skills. Tons of famous bands and musicians started out playing on these free nights, even if only one or two songs. Don't ignore the opportunity just because you may think it sounds cheesy.

All in all, you need to just get out there at every opportunity and play your music live. For the fans, there's nothing like hearing a band do their thing right in front of you as part of a crowd. And for you, it's great to get the immediate feedback and admiration from a live audience. Although there are ways to get your music to more people at once, there is no other way to generate the kind of impact that a live show of your music creates.
