Are Online Guitar Lessons Better Than Private Ones?

By Jack Wogan

Choosing between online guitar lessons and private ones is not very difficult to do if you know exactly what you want. It all depends on how much money you want to invest, how much time you have for the lessons, whether you like working alone or under the guidance of a teacher and if you think that the traditional methods suit you better than the modern ones. There is of course a third option to learn how to play the guitar, which is going to a music school. This is suitable mostly for young students who want to make a career out of this activity.

Since money is something important nowadays, if you are considering taking guitar lessons you should know that hiring a private teacher could cost you more than learning from the internet. The price is even higher when we are talking about experienced teachers with great results. In what concerns online guitar lessons they are quite cheap and sometimes even free. The only thing you will need is a computer with a connection to the internet.

Time is also an important criterion to consider. People who lead a busy life do not have time to go to classes on a regular basis. So, for them, taking private classes might not be a wise solution. A good teacher will always keep track of the progress and give the student a push when he needs it. In the case of online lessons it is only up to the student how motivated he is to make progress. The downside is that private lessons are scheduled in advance which is not very suitable in the case of busy people.

Not everyone is a good autodidact. The online lessons provide people with plenty of information but it is up to them how they organize the learning process. They have to find their own learning style and make sure it fits them. This is not necessarily a negative point as many prefer to learn by themselves without a teacher who tells them what to do at each step. On the other hand, with the help of an experienced teacher learning can be easier. He knows exactly what needs to be improved and how that can be done.

Beginners are usually not very well informed. For example they do not know how to make the difference between a fender guitar and a cort one or what accessories they need to purchase to practice their music. Both a teacher and online lessons can be very helpful when it comes to this information.

No one can say that online guitar lessons are better than private ones or the other way around. The truth is that it depends mostly on the student to decide.
