Which Are The Five Most Memorable Songs Of All Times?

By Jack Wogan

Many songs have made their way from times before most of us were born to the present days. But when it comes to choosing five most representative and most appreciated of them it becomes difficult not to fall into subjectivity. To avoid that learn about old music and learn about the context when it had appeared to correctly value its impact. To keep an objective view the five following songs belong to different bands and singers.

With "Imagine" John Lennon spoke the words that everyone wanted to hear in his time. When war overwhelmed the people, he was bold enough to give hem hope. But despite the masses of activists which joined him in singing this song, it remained until today a valuable song with universal meaning. It adapt the contemporary world just fine, and its musicality makes it suitable even for singing it as you put your children to sleep.

When they wrote "Hotel California" the Eagles were concerned about the artistic world. It was interpreted as illustrating an image of the dark side of the American Dream. Nevertheless it remains memorable by the images created through the lyrics and the slightly alluring music. The nightmarish atmosphere where it takes you can easily be the one which all artists face even nowadays, or it can simply bring to life your deepest fears and the vices that hold you captive.

For many critics Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" is the supreme song of all times. The religious references in it are not necessarily to be taken literally. It is a song about liberation and finding the true values in life, which should be different from those of the capitalist world. The lovely melody wraps the vague content in a foggy light trying to draw us to the right path.

The musical value of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" is undeniable. This song harmoniously and unexpectedly combines different artistic styles. The music changes throughout the song from ballad to opera and heavy metal. On this background theatrical lyrics roll, bringing to the scene a man conjuring the soothing figure of his mother to fight away the demonic faces which actually surround him.

"Light my Fire" was the Doors most popular song. Its popularity has reached beyond the age when it appeared and is still known and hummed by almost everyone. The fact that this is an optimistic song about lovers, seizing the day and being happy was the very source of its success. Furthermore, the traditionalist generations were outraged by its boldness and this only drew even more to it the attention of the young generation.

It is only fair to say that more names have the equal value of those listed above. There are also bands who made music that sounds great by using the effects pedal, which couldn't be mentioned among these. Nevertheless, they are known and loved by you and that is why you can draw your own top five or maybe top one hundred.
