2008 Box Office Hits By Derain: Free New Movies

By Perry White

This is a small selection of movie hits for 2008. This list consists of the films I enjoyed watching this year. I hope you find a couple of movies that are good viewing.

ROLE MODELS: Danny (Paul Rudd) and Wheeler (William Scott), who promote an energy drink, are going to see some hard jail time because they binged, and trashed the company truck. The only way to avoid serving jail time is to perform 150 hours of community service. Their task will be to become mentors in a big brother type situation. The stage is set for some good comedy.

IRON MAN: Playboy, engineer genius, Tony Stark is taken hostage by Afghan fighters. They command him to create weapon systems for the insurgent group. He was hurt while he was being captured, and he has shrapnel lodged in his chest. To save his life from this injury, and escape his captors, he creates a suit made of armor, that makes him super strong. Iron Man is born.

FORGETTING SAHRAH MARSHALL: Ater suffering a tough split with long time girlfriend Sarah, an actress in a chessy sitcom, Peter (Jason Segal) decides to go on a trip to the Hawaiian Islands to start anew and forget about Sarah. Of course, when he checks into the resort hotel, the first people he sees are Sarah and her new man, who is a mega rock star. This sets up as a classic romantic comedy.

THE DARK KNIGHT: Batman, and law enforcement officials, have been taking down the criminal elements of the city. Crime is now down, but now a new super criminal arrives on the scene, and starts a crime spree. Batman is in a battle now, as criminal mastermind, the Joker, has released his criminal insanity on Gotham City.

TROPIC THUNDER: With an abundance of acting talent we soon see this movie is a spoof on many of the most popular war movies. In order to inspire his underachieving super stars to make a first rate war movie, the frantic, and abused, director Damien Cockburn into the wild, and leaves them on thier own. The plan is to shock them so they will produce a work of genius, which hidden cameras will capture. Unbelievabley, as the director steps on an old land mine and dies, the crew is left on its own, and they think there acting, but things are getting very, very real. Written, directed, and acted in, by Ben Stiller.

WALL-E: This film is an animation comedy. Everyone has been removed from Earth because it had become a big pile of trash. Wall-E, a robot built to remove trash, has been left behind to continue cleaning. When a recon bot (Eve) appears, checking for signs of life on Earth, Wall-E finally has some company. When the spaceship returns for Eve, Wall-E sneaks aboard, and thus starts the adventure of his robot life.

Jumper: Nearing death by drowning, David Rice discovers he has an unbelievable ability. He has the ability to teleport himself to any place he wants to go, at any time. Later, he becomes aware that there are others with this skill. Unfortunately, after a few years of fun, he finds out that there are those that want him, and all the jumpers wiped out. He must fight for his life, as these paladins believe he should die.

GET SMART: Agent 86 is back, and he has us right where he wants us. The classic James Bond spy spoof, agents hidden in plants, and the cone of silence. This is a modern day version that looks back at the world of KAOS and CONTROL.

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO: Rent is over due and Zack and Miri, roomies who have been friends since grade school, are desperate to make some money. What will they do? Easy, start making pornos. As you might expect this seems like a good recipe for a great comedy.

These days just about everyone buys or rents films when the come out on DVD, so they can see them in the comfort of their living rooms. A more recent method for getting films is through downloads from online sources. Online providers have websites that with a membership, you can download almost any film you can think of.
