How To Buy Audio Speakers

By Dave Heebs

Home theater systems are meant to entertain guests in a movie theater-like environment. People who are purchasing the components to build these systems out are always looking for the best quality they can get. Speakers are one component that can cost alot of money if you are not careful.

If money is no object then you can skip the rest of this article. However, if you are like the rest of us, you will sometimes need to make small sacrifices in quality in order to fit it into your budget. This will mean getting a speaker that is not top of the line but is still very good quality, but with a lower price tag. As with most things, to unearth the gems in the rough, you will need to first do some digging.

The biggest factor is going to be your budget. There is no use looking at speakers that you have no hope of being able to buy. Your time is precious and researching and looking at speakers in your price range will save you valuable time that is more useful being spent narrowing your list of speaker candidates down.

Some stereo speakers are only compatible with certain components. Most of the time, certain speakers are a better match for certain components. Take stock of the stereo equipment you are planning to buy and make sure you match up the speaker to the components.

Now that you have established how much money you have and the requirements for your theater system, your next move is to research all fo the models that fit both of these pre-requisites. This research will get you a list of speakers to choose from.

The next step is to read as many reviews as possible about the speaker models on your list. These reviews will be from magazines as well as consumers who have bought the model and have real world experience with the speaker. The things you want to focus on are the warranty, the performance and the sound quality.

Always buy your speakers in a set of five. This will allow you to place the center speaker in front of your audience and then the other four speakers at the diagonal corners framing the seating area. This will allow you a surround sound quality movie experience.

Getting the right speakers for you doesn't have to be impossible. If you take it step by step you will find the right speaker set for you.
